On January 12, 2011, Vice Minister of SAIC (the State Administration for Industry and Commerce) Fu Shuangjian said that the AIC authority will continuously improve the efficiency of trademark examination, to reduce the examination period to 10 months for trademark application and to 20 months for opposition and dispute in 2012.
According to the statistics from the SAIC, there were 1,072,000 applications for trademark registration and 1,481.000 applications were examined in China in 2010. Up to the end of December 2010, there were totally 8,295,000 applications for trademark registration and 4,604,000 valid registered trademarks in China, both ranking No.1 in the world.
